Half Day Experience

A half day experience lasts from around 13:30 until 16:30 (13:00 to 16:00 late autumn). After a small amount of tuition in the handling of raptors, participants head in to a field, where they can experience the thrill of their first Hawk (and usually Owl as well) flying to them and landing gently on their outstretched glove. Then they will take part in flying some falcons, traditionally the birds of kings and nobility, and the fastest creature that has ever lived on this planet.
Some falcons will be flown to lures suspended on kites or balloons (even drones sometimes) many hundreds of feet in the air. Unforgettable experience.

Full Day Experience

Starting at 10am the session includes handling practice with various birds of prey, so the participants can feel the power of the live hawk as it balances on the fist. In our seminar room we give some background information to the art of falconry. This includes the types of hawks used, a little history of the sport (which is one of the worlds oldest pastimes - at least 3000 years old) and some interesting DVD's etc.

After lunch participants head in to a field, where they can experience the thrill of their first Hawk (and usually Owl as well) flying to them and landing gently on their outstretched glove. Then they will take part in flying some falcons, traditionally the birds of kings and nobility, and the fastest creature that has ever lived on this planet.

  • This is my second time at the falconry in Gloucester. I had such a good time first time on my half day, that I booked again for a friends birthday full day and it was such a good day. My friend loves birds and had such a good time. We got in depth meetings with all the birds and the interactions we had with them were amazing. I would highly recommend this to anyone even if you don’t have a passion for birds, after this experience I can assure you, you will!!

It was really easy to book (after Covid restrictions had eased), The Falconry School staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledge and I had a great day. They even made sure accompanying partners were heavily involved in the experience. Hugely recommended!!
